Pathogenesis of Hemorrhoids
Pile or Hemorrhoid is an abnormal fleshy growth in anorectal region. In Ayurveda this disease understood as Arsha. According to modern medicine it refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed.
According to Modern Medicine piles develop due a number of factor i.e.
Heredity : There is familial tendency to develop pile i.e. familial polypoisys coli
Anatomical and physiological factors : abnormal anatomical and physiological condition i.e. atrophy of ganglion
Constipation, diarrhea and straining : this helps in descent of pelvic floor
Alteration of sphincter tone : produces ischemia and relaxation in anal canal
Increased resting pressure : high blood pressure in anal vessel and engorgement of vessel
Cirrhosis of liver : increase Back pressure in anal vessel
Thrombosis of portal vein : increase Back pressure in anal vessel
Abdominal tumors : increase pressure in anal vessel
Pregnancy : increase blood pressure in anal vessel
Ca rectum : increase blood pressure in anal vessel
The Ayurveda has vast view on pathogenesis of hemorrhoids.Ayurveda deals with basic cause of disease that is known as Nidanas. According to ayurvedic text, Arsha or hemorroid are six type i.e. vataj, kaphaj, Pittaj, raktaj, sannipataj, sahaj and a number of factors are responsible for development of piles or arsha. thease are as follow:
Irregular habits like
straining, constipation
Excessive and irregular diet regimen
Posture
Sitting on hard object
Riding on vehicles for long duration,
Suppression of normal urge of micturition & defecation
These factors acts on different area of anal canal and produces
different type of hemorrhoids.
