Classification of Hemorrhoids

Pile or Hemorrhoid is an abnormal fleshy growth in anorectal region. In Ayurveda this disease understood as Arsha. According to modern medicine it refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed.

According to Location

Internal hemorrhoid - The blood vessels are protrudes in anal canal.

External hemorrhoid - The hemorrhoids are bulge out through anal canal

According to position

3, 7 & 11 O’clock position - It is due to involvement of main vessels of anal canal

According to Prolepses

I – Merely projects into the anal canal

II – Descends towards the anal verge, may appear externally during straining but returns spontaneously after defecation

III – Protrudes out during defecation and continues to remain outside even after defecation and has to be digitally replaced into the anal canal

IV – Once protruded out, cannot be replaced by any means i.e. is completely irreducible.

These classifications are not so fruitful in the managements of hemorrhoids and most of the time after treatment they again appear with sever condition.
